SAMSON, our seven-year-old Great Pyrenees, had TPLO surgery for a torn ACL in his right knee January 2002. Post-surgery confinement left him atrophied and depressed. Our regular vet knew about Sheila and the hydrotherapy pool she has. Our vet recommended the hydrotherapy to strengthen Samson's muscles and ligaments to provide better support to his joints without the counterproductive pounding of the longer walks recommended by the surgeon.

He's not, by any stretch of the imagination, a water dog and avoided standing water so thoroughly we weren't even sure he could swim. Sheila had Samson in the pool in the first 15 minutes of the session. After the third session, there was noticeable improvement in the TPLO leg and his mood was returning to its usual sunniness--including an increased interest in play. Now, he goes willingly into the pool and his legs are strong and well balanced. He looks forward to the pool sessions so much that he starts his " happy dance" (bouncing up and down on his front legs with his hind legs bearing his full weight) whenever we reach for his beach towels: he knows he's going to the pool to see Sheila! He also just loves the massages she provides to him as part of the sessions. For our part, we're thankful to Sheila for giving us back our happy, mischievous partner-in-crime who, though geriatric, is in the best condition of his life.
